Does Lady Gaga Speak French?
Despite her global stardom and artistic flair, Lady Gaga does not speak French fluently. While she’s dazzled audiences with her music, acting, and bold fashion choices, the French language hasn’t been one of her strong suits—though she did give it a try.
Back in October 2018, during a lighthearted appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Gaga opened up about her school days. She revealed that she attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where she took French classes. Like many students, though, she admitted that her grasp of the language didn’t go much beyond the classroom basics.
“I took French, but I wasn’t very good at it,” she confessed with her signature honesty and humor. That candid moment gave fans a glimpse into her more vulnerable, human side—far from the glitter and drama of her stage persona.
Still, given her dedication to her craft and her deep appreciation for European culture—especially her love affair with France, which she’s often showcased in interviews and performances—it wouldn’t be surprising if she’s picked up a few more phrases since then. After all, she’s performed in Paris, embraced French fashion, and even collaborated with French artists like Laurent Garnier.
While she may not be ordering croissants in flawless Parisian French anytime soon, her connection to French culture runs deeper than language alone. And who knows? With her determination and passion, a full French interview might not be too far off—one "poulet" at a time.
