Thin Blue Line Badges and Police Policy

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) maintains strict guidelines regarding what officers can wear while on duty. According to current policy, the wearing of Thin Blue Line badges is not permitted.

While uniformity and neutrality are key components of police dress codes, there are a few specific exceptions. Officers are allowed to wear officially recognized symbols of remembrance and charity, such as the Police Memorial Day badge, the Royal British Legion poppy, and the Help for Heroes badge and wristband.

Outside of these approved exceptions, personal or political symbols—including the Thin Blue Line emblem—remain restricted to ensure that officers maintain a neutral public image while representing the force.
