If you have ever typed someone else's name into a search engine and worried they might get a notification, you can breathe a sigh of relief. The short answer is no, individuals cannot see when you perform a standard Google search of their name.

Google does not track individual searches back to specific people in a way that alerts the target of your curiosity. When you search for someone, your query is simply added to anonymized search trends. Website owners can see general traffic statistics, such as how many total visitors clicked on their site, but they never see a list of individual names or search terms that tied specific users to their pages.

However, there are a few exceptions worth keeping in mind. If you are logged into a shared account, use a company or school network where internet activity is monitored by IT administrators, or accidentally interact with someone's public profile—like visiting their LinkedIn page while logged in—they might see a trace of your visit through that specific platform, rather than from Google itself.
