PDA and Uniform Rules in the Air Force

When you put on an Air Force uniform, you represent a long-standing tradition of military professionalism. Because of this, certain rules apply to how you behave in public spaces, and they are taken quite seriously.

One of the clearest guidelines revolves around Public Displays of Affection (PDA). While you are in uniform, engaging in intimate behaviors—such as kissing, holding hands, or walking arm-in-arm—is strictly prohibited.

Military protocol expects Airmen to maintain a professional bearing at all times while wearing the uniform. Even simple gestures of affection that might be totally normal in civilian life are restricted to ensure that service members always project a disciplined, professional image to the public.
