Despite both being towering figures in the world of physics, there’s no solid evidence that Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein ever actually met. Though they lived relatively close—Tesla spent much of his later life in New York City, while Einstein settled in Princeton, New Jersey—their paths don’t appear to have formally crossed.

Even if they had met, it might not have been a friendly encounter. Tesla was famously critical of Einstein’s theory of relativity, dismissing it as “a magnificent mathematical garb which fascinates, dazzles and makes people blind to the underlying errors.” He believed in a more mechanical, ether-based understanding of the universe, sharply contrasting Einstein’s revolutionary ideas.

Their differing views went beyond science—they reflected opposing philosophies. Tesla valued experimentation and tangible results, often distrusting abstract mathematical theories. Einstein, on the other hand, relied heavily on thought experiments and theoretical frameworks. This fundamental divide made mutual admiration unlikely.
