Life at the LAPD Academy

Wondering what a typical week looks like when training to become an LAPD officer? One of the biggest misconceptions people have is that recruits live on-site during the training process. In reality, the LAPD Academy is not a live-in facility, meaning recruits get to head home at the end of each day.

The daily schedule is structured much like a demanding full-time job. Instruction typically runs from Monday through Friday, starting bright and early at 6:30 AM and wrapping up around 3:00 PM. However, the workday doesn't stop when class lets out. Recruits should expect to dedicate an additional three to four hours of study time each afternoon and evening to keep up with the rigorous academic and tactical curriculum.

While the schedule is intense and requires heavy dedication, weekends and official holidays are entirely yours. This gives trainees crucial time to rest, recover, and spend time with family and friends before diving back into the weekly routine.
