Does Ejaculation Help With an Enlarged Prostate?
It’s a question many men hesitate to ask, but science is starting to provide some answers. While ejaculation won’t cure an enlarged prostate, research suggests that regular sexual activity—and more specifically, frequent ejaculation—might play a supportive role in prostate health.
A study tracking thousands of men found that those who ejaculated more than 20 times per month were less likely to develop prostate cancer, a condition closely linked to prostate health overall. While this doesn’t directly prove that ejaculation prevents benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), the clinical term for prostate enlargement, the connection is worth noting. The theory? Regular ejaculation may help flush out inflammatory substances or stagnant fluids in the prostate, potentially reducing congestion and irritation over time.
It's important to be realistic, though. Ejaculation isn’t a guaranteed shield against prostate issues. Genetics, age, diet, and overall health play far bigger roles. As men get older, prostate enlargement becomes increasingly common—nearly 50% of men in their 50s experience some degree of it. So while staying sexually active might support general well-being, it shouldn’t replace medical advice or treatment when symptoms like frequent urination, weak flow, or incomplete emptying arise.Still, the idea that a natural, healthy sex life could contribute to prostate resilience is encouraging. It reinforces what many urologists already suggest: taking care of your body includes staying active in all senses of the word. If you're concerned about prostate health, talk to your doctor—but don’t underestimate the value of balance, intimacy, and regular check-ups.
