How to Remove an Emergency Contact on iPhone
If you've added someone as an emergency contact on your iPhone and later decide to remove them, the process is simple and can be done in just a few taps. Whether you're updating your Medical ID for accuracy or adjusting your circle of trust, managing emergency contacts is part of keeping your Health app up to date.
To remove an emergency contact, start by opening the Health app on your device. Tap on the Medical ID tab located at the bottom of the screen. From there, select Edit in the top right corner. Scroll down until you see the “Emergency Contacts” section.
Next to each listed contact, you’ll notice a small circle with an “i” inside or a minus sign—tap that. A red Delete option will appear. Tap it, then confirm the removal. Once you’re done editing, tap Done in the top right to save your changes.
It’s important to note that removing someone as an emergency contact doesn’t delete them from your actual contacts list—it simply removes them from quick access during emergencies. This ensures that only the people you currently trust have that role.
Regularly reviewing your emergency contacts is a smart habit, especially after life changes like moving, changing relationships, or updating your support network. The Health app is designed to reflect your real-world situation, so keeping it current can make a critical difference when seconds count.
With intuitive navigation and clear labeling, Apple makes it easy to manage these settings—no tech expertise required. Just a few taps, and your emergency info is back in sync with your life.
