Calling 911 on a Locked Android Phone

In high-stress situations, every second counts, and wasting time trying to remember a passcode can be dangerous. Fortunately, modern Android devices are designed to let you reach emergency services instantly without needing to unlock the screen.

To place a call on Android devices running Android 10 and later, simply press the power button to wake up your phone's display. On the lock screen, look toward the lower-left area where you will find a dedicated Emergency button. Tapping this option instantly opens the emergency dialer, allowing you to type in 9-1-1 and connect with dispatchers right away.

Additionally, many modern smartphones include an Emergency SOS shortcut. Rapidly pressing the power button five times in a row can automatically trigger an emergency sequence or pull up a direct slider to call for help. Taking a moment to familiarize yourself with these lock screen features ensures you are always prepared when it matters most.
