How to Keep Your ChatGPT Content Off Google
If you’ve ever shared a ChatGPT conversation publicly, you might not realize it could be indexed by Google. While sharing can be useful, some content—especially drafts, personal notes, or internal ideas—should stay private. The good news: there’s a way to make sure your ChatGPT links don’t show up in search results.
Start by heading to your ChatGPT settings. Under Data controls, find the Shared links section and click “Manage.” Here, you’ll see all the conversations you’ve ever shared with a public link. If something shouldn’t be visible anymore, simply delete it. You can remove individual links or use the “Delete all shared links” option for a clean slate.
But deletion is only half the job. Even after removing a link, Google might still have it cached. To check, open Google and type site:chatgpt.com/share yourname (or your brand or project keywords). This search filters results to only those hosted on ChatGPT’s share domain. If any unwanted links appear, they’re still indexed.
Deleting the shared link removes access, but it can take time for Google to update its index. There’s no instant “deindex” button in ChatGPT, so the key is acting early. Once a link is gone from the source, Google will eventually drop it from search results—usually within days or weeks.
Bottom line: treat shared ChatGPT links like any public content. Review them regularly, clean up old ones, and use this simple search trick to stay in control. A few minutes now can prevent an unintended leak later.
