How to Register a Cheque in the Positive Pay System Online
Registering a cheque in the Positive Pay System (PPS) is a straightforward process that can be done entirely online through your bank’s net banking portal. This system enhances security by verifying key cheque details before payment, helping prevent fraud and unauthorized transactions.
To get started, log in to your net banking account using your credentials. Once inside, navigate to the “Request” section—this is usually found in the main menu. From there, look for the option labeled “Positive Pay System (PPS)” and click on it. You’ll then see a sub-option labeled “PPS Request”—select that to proceed.
The next step is to choose the account number from the dropdown list for which you’re issuing the cheque. This ensures the bank links the correct account to the transaction. After selecting the account, you’ll need to provide specific details about the cheque, including the Cheque Number, Cheque Issue Date, and the exact Amount. Make sure this information is accurate, as any discrepancy could lead to the cheque being rejected.
Once all fields are filled, submit the request. The bank will then verify the details and flag the cheque for additional scrutiny before clearance. Many banks also send a confirmation via SMS or email, giving you peace of mind that the process was completed successfully.
Using PPS is especially recommended for high-value cheques, as it adds a crucial layer of protection. While the exact steps may vary slightly depending on your bank, most major banks in India—like SBI, HDFC, and ICICI—offer this feature with a similar flow. Always double-check the details you enter to ensure a smooth payment process.
