Is 80% Humidity Too High in a House?

An indoor humidity level of 80% is definitely too high for any home. Ideally, indoor humidity should stay between 30% and 60%. When moisture levels climb far past that threshold, your living space enters a danger zone.

Sustained high humidity creates a breeding ground for mold and mildew, which can trigger allergies and respiratory issues. Beyond health concerns, excess moisture silently damages your home. It can warp wooden floors, peel wallpaper, blister paint, rot structural brickwork, and ruin furniture over time.

Combatting this problem requires a proactive approach. Make sure to heat your home properly, as warmth helps the air hold less trapped moisture. Improve air circulation by using ventilation fans in high-moisture areas like kitchens and bathrooms, and consider running a dehumidifier. Finally, try to keep everyday moisture-creating activities—like long hot showers or air-drying laundry indoors—to a minimum to keep your indoor climate balanced and healthy.
