Personal Hygiene Guidelines in Islamic Tradition
In Islamic tradition, personal cleanliness and grooming hold a place of notable importance. Known as Sunan al-Fitrah, these routines encompass habits aimed at maintaining physical purity, health, and overall well-being.
Among these guidelines is the removal of body hair, including pubic hair, for both men and women. Religious etiquette generally specifies that this practice begins around the onset of puberty, or menarche in young women, marking the transition into physical maturity. To ensure proper hygiene, Islamic teachings advise performing this routine regularly, with a recommended maximum interval of 40 days between grooming sessions.
By framing routine care around physiological milestones, these long-standing principles encourage personal responsibility and cleanliness as fundamental aspects of daily life.
