Navigating recovery after prostate surgery
Undergoing prostate surgery is a major milestone, but healing takes time and patience. While you can typically return to your usual daily rhythm within about six weeks, your body needs clear boundaries during those early weeks of recovery.
Getting back behind the wheel is often possible after a couple of weeks, provided you are no longer taking strong prescription pain medication and can comfortably perform an emergency stop. However, heavy lifting must be strictly avoided for a full six weeks. Straining too soon can disrupt healing tissues and cause unnecessary setbacks.
It is also completely normal to experience some discomfort or pain post-surgery. Most people find they need mild pain relief for the first few days to stay comfortable. Listening to your body, resting when needed, and following your medical team's specific guidance will help pave the way for a smooth return to everyday life.
