When you need to remove stubborn water from an organic solution, chemists often turn to a reliable drying agent: anhydrous sodium sulfate. The term "anhydrous" simply means the substance is completely free of water, leaving it primed and ready to absorb moisture.

The real advantage of this compound lies in its impressive absorption capacity. It can bind nearly twice its mass of water. For practical applications, adding about 3.0 grams of anhydrous sodium sulfate allows you to effectively remove up to approximately 4.0 grams of water—roughly 1.4 times its own mass—directly from the liquid mixture.
