Why does this matter? Because severe pancreatitis can lead to complications like organ failure or infection, distinguishing it early from mild forms allows for more aggressive monitoring and intervention. While imaging and other lab values also contribute to the full picture, CRP remains a practical and widely accessible tool in hospitals worldwide.
