For years, Hollywood lore suggested that Jodie Foster was so terrified of Anthony Hopkins on the set of The Silence of the Lambs that the two lead actors barely spoke during production. While Foster has openly admitted in past interviews that Hopkins’ chilling portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter genuinely unsettled her, Hopkins recently set the record straight regarding the extent of their supposed rift.

Speaking on an episode of the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, the veteran actor dismissed the longstanding rumors as blown out of proportion. "I met Jodie, and she was very nice," Hopkins explained, addressing the popular myth that they completely avoided each other during filming. "There's quotes that Jodie never spoke to me. That's not true."

Although their characters share some of the most intense and iconic scenes in cinema history, the structure of the film meant the two actors actually spent very little time together on set. Most of their famous dialogue scenes were filmed with thick glass separating them, or through individual close-up shots where they acted opposite the camera rather than each other.

This technical separation, combined with the intense nature of their roles, naturally fueled rumors of off-screen tension. However, Hopkins' recent comments clarify that any perceived distance was simply a matter of production logistics and professional focus, rather than actual fear or conflict between two cinema legends.
