What Dissolves in Water? A Simple Guide for Kids
Have you ever dropped a sugar cube into your tea and watched it disappear? That’s called dissolving — and it’s a fun part of everyday science! When something dissolves in water, it breaks down into tiny pieces so small you can’t see them anymore, but they’re still there.
Salt, sugar, and instant coffee are great examples of things that dissolve in water. We call them soluble. If you stir sugar into warm water, you’ll notice it disappears much faster than in cold water. That’s because heat helps speed up the process — the tiny particles in sugar or salt can mix more easily into warm water.
