Recovery at Home After Prostate Surgery
Heading home after prostate surgery is a major step forward, but the recovery process continues in your own space. Taking care of your body during these first few days makes a huge difference in how smoothly you heal.
Diet and Hydration
Keep things simple when it comes to food at first. Stick to a light diet until you have your first bowel movement. At the same time, hydration is key—aim to drink eight 8-ounce cups of liquids every day to keep your system flushing properly and help your body recover.
Hygiene and Movement
You can usually take a shower 24 hours after your procedure, which helps you stay fresh without irritating the area. Movement is also a vital part of healing. Get up and walk around every two hours while you are awake. Over the course of the day, try to build up to a total of four to five miles of walking to keep your circulation strong and prevent complications.
