The Science of Evaporation

Have you ever wondered where puddles disappear to after a rainy day? The answer lies in a fundamental natural phenomenon known as evaporation.

At its core, evaporation is the continuous process that transforms liquid water into gaseous water, better known as water vapor. Through this invisible journey, moisture constantly moves upward from the Earth's vast oceans, rivers, and soil straight into the atmosphere.

This phase change doesn't happen by accident; it requires energy. When heat—usually supplied by the sun—warmly embraces a body of water, it transfers kinetic energy to the molecules. This incoming heat provides enough power to break the tight bonds holding water molecules together, allowing them to break free from the liquid surface and rise into the air as vapor.
