Names Falling Out of Favor: The Girls’ Names Losing Popularity Fastest
Every year, baby name trends shift, revealing which names are riding the wave of popularity—and which are quietly fading. Based on recent data from BabyCenter, a few girl names have seen a sharp decline in use, signaling a clear shift in parental preferences.
At the top of the list is Charleigh, which dropped a staggering 421 spots. Once a rising star blending classic charm with modern spelling flair, it now seems to be losing its luster. Close behind is Mckinley, down 419 positions. A name with presidential roots and a soft, melodic sound, it’s become a casualty of shifting tastes.
Also on the decline: Prisha, which fell 349 places. This name, of Indian origin meaning “beloved” or “precious,” had been gaining ground globally but appears to be cooling in popularity in Western markets. Interestingly, Ezra—traditionally a boy’s name but increasingly used for girls—dropped 348 spots, suggesting a possible reversion to more gender-specific naming patterns.
And then there’s Sasha, down 331 spots. Once a go-to unisex pick with a cool, international edge, it’s now feeling dated to many parents seeking fresher, more distinctive options.
These shifts reflect broader trends—parents moving away from names that feel overused or momentarily passé in favor of rarer, more unique choices. While today’s fallen favorites may one day enjoy a nostalgic revival, for now, they’re making room for the next generation of trendy names.
