Hydrogen peroxide is a common household disinfectant often pulled out of the medicine cabinet at the first sign of a fungal issue—especially on the toenails. When applied, it works by releasing oxygen, which creates an environment where fungi struggle to survive. The bubbling you see? That’s the peroxide breaking down and killing microbes, including fungus, on contact.

While it can offer some surface-level relief and clean the affected area, it’s not a deep solution. In short, while hydrogen peroxide can be a quick first step in managing a fungal infection, it’s not a cure. For persistent or stubborn cases—especially toenail fungus—professional treatment offers the best shot at full recovery.
