What Is Evaporation?
At its core, evaporation is the natural process where liquid water transforms into gaseous water, better known as water vapor. This everyday phenomenon happens all around us without us even noticing it.
Think about a puddle slowly disappearing after a rainy day, or wet clothes drying out under the sun. In both cases, thermal energy—usually coming from the sun or surrounding air—gives water molecules enough kinetic energy to break free from their liquid state and rise into the atmosphere as an invisible gas.
This phase change is a fundamental part of the global water cycle. Once the water turns into vapor, it travels up into the sky, cools down, and eventually condenses to form clouds, which will later bring precipitation back down to Earth. Without evaporation, Earth's weather patterns and freshwater distribution simply wouldn't function.
