Ranveer Singh’s Battle with Dengue During 'Gunday' Shoot

Back in 2013, during the intense filming schedule of Ali Abbas Zafar’s 'Gunday' in Durgapur, West Bengal, actor Ranveer Singh fell seriously ill. What began as sudden fatigue and a rising fever quickly escalated, leaving the crew concerned. At the time, speculations ran high—was it exhaustion, heatstroke, or something more serious?

It didn’t take long for doctors to identify the culprit: dengue fever. The infection, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes commonly found in tropical climates, had taken hold during the humid shoot conditions. Symptoms like high fever, joint pain, and extreme lethargy are classic signs of the disease, and Ranveer reportedly struggled with these for several days.

Dengue is no small illness—it can quickly become severe, especially if not managed promptly. In Ranveer’s case, the diagnosis came just in time. He was immediately taken off set and put under medical supervision, receiving the rest and hydration needed for recovery. The production had to slow down temporarily, highlighting just how unpredictable health challenges can be, even for young, seemingly fit individuals.

What made Ranveer’s situation notable was his dedication. Even while battling fever, there were reports of him trying to push through the shoot, a testament to his commitment. However, the team wisely prioritized his health, ensuring proper recovery before resuming work.

His experience also shed light on the risks associated with outdoor filming in regions prone to mosquito-borne diseases. Since then, many film units have become more cautious about health protocols, especially when shooting in high-risk areas.

Ranveer eventually bounced back stronger, going on to deliver a stellar performance in 'Gunday'. His dengue scare serves as a reminder that even in the fast-paced world of cinema, health must always come first.
