At the heart of every refrigeration cycle lies a critical component: the evaporator. While many people assume cooling systems actively generate cold, they actually work by removing heat. The primary function of the evaporator is heat absorption, pulling warmth out of a refrigerator cabinet or conditioned room to lower the overall temperature.
Inside the evaporator coils, a low-pressure liquid refrigerant absorbs thermal energy from the surrounding air. As it draws in this heat, the refrigerant boils and transforms into a vapor. This phase change is what creates the cooling effect, allowing the system to continuously extract heat from the space.
