The Soviet Land Battleship

During the interwar period, military engineers experimented with massive designs, leading to one of the most unusual armored vehicles ever built. The Soviet T-35 heavy tank stands out in military history as the only five-turreted vehicle of its kind to actually reach mass production.

Because of its immense size and heavy armament layout, soldiers and historians alike gave it the nickname land battleship. With multiple turrets housing a mix of cannons and machine guns, it looked like a dreadnought warship adapted for dry land.

Despite its intimidating appearance on parade grounds, the T-35 faced serious practical limitations in actual combat. It turned out to be extremely slow, cumbersome, and prone to frequent mechanical breakdowns. Most units were lost due to engine and transmission failures rather than direct enemy fire, making it a fascinating but ultimately flawed chapter in tank development.
