Understanding Evapotranspiration
Water is constantly moving from the Earth's surface up into the atmosphere, a combined process known as evapotranspiration. This includes both water evaporating directly from soil and water being transpired through the leaves of plants.

What makes this specific equation so effective is its inclusion of specialized resistance terms. It accounts for stomatal resistance—which is how plants regulate water loss through microscopic pores in their leaves—alongside overall surface resistance for different types of vegetation and soils.
