Speaking in an interview with Esquire, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that turning down a role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 drama Boogie Nights remains his biggest professional regret. DiCaprio was originally approached to star as Dirk Diggler, the breakout character that ultimately propelled Mark Wahlberg to superstardom.

At the time, scheduling conflicts forced DiCaprio to pass on the project because he had already committed to starring in James Cameron’s historic blockbuster, Titanic. While that choice launched him into global superstardom, he has openly admitted a lingering fondness for Anderson's film.

"My biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights," DiCaprio shared in the magazine. "It was a profound movie of my generation. I can't imagine anyone but Mark in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece."

Even though he missed out on being part of the cast, DiCaprio played a key role in the film's legacy by suggesting Wahlberg for the part after they worked together on The Basketball Diaries. Decades later, DiCaprio and Anderson finally teamed up, proving that some creative partnerships are simply worth the long wait.
