When working with ethanoic acid—commonly known as acetic acid—it’s essential to take proper safety precautions, especially when dealing with concentrated or moderately concentrated solutions. This weak organic acid may seem less hazardous than strong mineral acids, but it can still cause significant irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory system if not handled correctly.

Safety glasses are a must whenever you're handling ethanoic acid. Even a small splash can lead to eye discomfort or injury, so protective eyewear should never be skipped. In environments where there's a risk of splashing or aerosol formation, consider using a face shield in addition to safety glasses for extra protection.
