Who Forgets to Brush Their Teeth?
Believe it or not, not everyone remembers to brush their teeth daily — and global habits vary more than you might think. While oral hygiene is a routine for many, a surprising number of people admit to skipping it. According to recent findings, Indonesians top the list of forgetful brushers, with a full 45% admitting they often skip brushing. Brazil follows closely behind, with 40% of respondents saying the same.
On the other end of the spectrum, Germany stands out as the most diligent, with only 20% of Germans reporting they forget to brush — a clear sign of disciplined routine. Meanwhile, Italy, Argentina, and the UK show a middling trend, with 33% in each country claiming they never forget to brush. That means, interestingly, that a majority in these countries still occasionally miss a session.
Why the differences? Culture, access to dental care, and daily habits all play a role. In some regions, brushing twice a day isn't as deeply ingrained in daily life, while in others, public health campaigns and education have made oral hygiene a non-negotiable habit. And while skipping a brushing session here and there might seem harmless, dentists warn that consistency matters — cavities, gum disease, and long-term dental costs often stem from small, repeated oversights.
Still, it’s worth remembering that brushing isn’t just about routine — it’s about health. Whether you're in Jakarta or Berlin, a toothbrush can be a powerful tool. The data shows we’re not all equally careful, but the message is clear: don’t forget the brush. Your teeth will thank you decades down the line.
