Who Has the Most Genetically Unique DNA?

When it comes to human genetic diversity, sub-Saharan Africans stand out as the most genetically distinct population. This isn't just a minor difference—it reflects deep roots in human history. Modern humans originated in Africa, and populations there have had the longest time to accumulate genetic variation. As a result, sub-Saharan Africans possess far more unique DNA than any other large population group.

Within this broad category, one group stands out even further: the Khoisan people, who live in parts of southern Africa. Studies show that the Khoisan have the highest level of genetic uniqueness of any human population. Their DNA contains variations not found in other groups around the world, highlighting just how ancient and distinct their lineage is. What’s often misunderstood is that genetic diversity outside Africa is actually a subset of African diversity.
