When it comes to box office disasters and critical drubbings, a few names stand out in Bollywood’s colorful history. While Indian cinema has delivered countless classics, it’s also seen its share of misfires — films that promised everything but delivered very little.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), starring Salman Khan, tops many lists of forgettable blockbusters. Despite massive promotions and a devotional theme, the film was criticized for its outdated melodrama and over-the-top performances. Similarly, Judwaa 2 (2017), a lazy rehash of the original 1997 hit, banked entirely on nostalgia and dance numbers, leaving audiences unimpressed.

Then came Grand Masti (2013), an adult comedy that relied heavily on crass humor and objectification — a cheap laugh-fest that drew ire from censors and critics alike. Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar (2012) was another costly misfire, packing explosions and loud dialogues but little substance.

Shaandaar (2015), directed by Vikas Bahl, was a visual spectacle with zero emotional grounding. Despite its grand sets and dreamy cinematography, the narrative fizzled out, leaving viewers confused. Shah Rukh Khan’s ambitious Ra.One (2011) was another expensive failure — a superhero film that stumbled under the weight of poor writing and excessive CGI.

Even successful franchises aren’t immune. Dabangg 2 (2012) rode on the charisma of Salman Khan but offered nothing new — just more action, noise, and formula. And while Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) wasn’t a total disaster, its forgettable storyline and derivative plot placed it among the overrated letdowns of the decade.

These films remind us that star power and big budgets don’t guarantee success. In Bollywood, sometimes the flop is unforgettable.
