What Are Synthetic Polymers?

When we think of materials invented by humans, one of the most impactful is synthetic polymers. Unlike natural polymers found in nature—like proteins or cellulose—synthetic polymers are created in labs and factories through carefully controlled chemical reactions. These human-made materials have revolutionized modern life, with plastic being the most familiar example.

From the clothes we wear to the devices we use every day, these engineered substances quietly shape the modern world—proving that sometimes, the smallest building blocks can make the biggest difference.
