Converting model scales can feel intimidating at first glance, but the math boils down to a straightforward bridge: going through real-world size.

When you need to adapt a dimension from a 1/72 scale part to a 1/48 scale model, follow this two-step calculation:

  1. Find the real-world size: Take your 1/72 scale measurement and multiply it by 72. This scales the miniature up to the actual dimensions of the real object.

  2. Convert to the new scale: Take that real-world size and divide it by 48. The resulting number gives you the exact measurement needed for your 1/48 scale project.

In short, multiply by 72, then divide by 48. Using the real object as a common denominator takes the guesswork out of any scaling conversion.
