Microplastics on the Breakfast Plate: Are Eggs Safe?
When thinking about microplastic pollution, the mind usually drifts to bottled water or seafood harvested from plastic-choked oceans. Their estimations suggest that consuming 100 grams of egg—roughly equivalent to two large eggs—could result in an estimated daily intake of 24 microplastics per gram. While this might sound alarming, it reflects a broader global reality: microplastics have officially entered our agricultural systems, finding their way into soil, chicken feed, and ultimately, the livestock itself.
Currently, science is still racing to understand what these numbers mean for human health. While the presence of these particles is undeniable, there is no definitive consensus on whether the levels found in eggs pose an immediate toxicological threat.
