Can You Still Feel Your Tampon? Here’s What to Do
It’s not uncommon to wonder, “Can I still feel my tampon?”—and the short answer is: if you’re feeling discomfort or a persistent sensation of something being “off,” your tampon might not be placed quite right. When inserted properly, a tampon should be barely noticeable. You shouldn’t feel it during normal movement, sitting, or walking.
If you do feel it, don’t panic. First, try gently pushing it further into place. Wash your hands thoroughly, then use your finger to nudge it a bit higher. The vaginal canal can sometimes angle slightly, especially depending on your position, so a simple adjustment often does the trick. If that doesn’t help—or if it feels difficult to move—go ahead and remove it. Sometimes, the size or absorbency isn’t quite right for your flow, which can affect placement.
Re-inserting with a fresh tampon may work better. Make sure to follow the angle of your vaginal canal (usually tilted slightly toward your lower back) and push it in until the applicator clicks or your fingers can’t go further. You should no longer feel it once it’s properly positioned.
If you frequently feel your tampon, or if insertion is consistently uncomfortable, consider trying a different size, brand, or even exploring other menstrual products like menstrual cups or period underwear. Everyone’s body is different, and what works varies from person to person.
And remember: if you ever experience pain, leakage, or can’t remove a tampon, it’s worth reaching out to a healthcare provider. But in most cases, a quick adjustment is all it takes to feel comfortable and confident again.
