The key lies in vinegar’s acetic acid content. Acetic acid is known for its antimicrobial properties, capable of penetrating the sticky extracellular substances that hold biofilm together. By disrupting this matrix, vinegar exposes the bacteria within, making them more vulnerable and easier to wash away.
While vinegar may not replace industrial disinfectants in clinical settings, its accessibility and non-toxic nature make it an excellent option for routine household cleaning.
