How Long Does It Really Take?
When it comes to intimacy, one question often lingers in the back of people’s minds: How long should it last? While it’s a deeply personal experience that varies from person to person, research suggests that, on average, a man reaches orgasm and ejaculates after about 5 to 7 minutes of intercourse.
But that number is just a snapshot. The reality is far more varied. For some, it might be over in under a minute—especially if anxiety, excitement, or sensitivity plays a role. Others may last well beyond 20 minutes, even approaching half an hour. Both ends of this spectrum can be perfectly normal.
It’s important to remember that timing isn't the whole story. Stamina doesn’t equal satisfaction. For many couples, emotional connection, foreplay, communication, and mutual pleasure matter far more than the minutes ticking on a clock. In fact, focusing too much on duration can sometimes create pressure, making performance more difficult.
Various factors influence how long a man lasts: age, health, stress levels, relationship dynamics, and even how often he’s been intimate recently. Some men use techniques like the start-stop method or mindfulness to extend their endurance, while others find that simply relaxing and enjoying the moment makes the biggest difference.
At the end of the day, there’s no “right” amount of time. What matters most is that both partners feel comfortable, respected, and connected. Whether it’s a quick encounter or a drawn-out session, intimacy is about quality—not the clock.
