How to Spot a Fake Product with a Simple Scan
These days, counterfeit goods are everywhere — from luxury handbags to everyday electronics. But there's a quick, easy way to help protect yourself: scan the barcode or QR code on the product.
Most authentic products come with a scannable code that links directly to the brand’s official website or a product verification page. Simply open your smartphone’s camera or a trusted QR scanner app and point it at the code. If it redirects you to the official company site, a product registration page, or displays verifiable details like batch numbers and manufacturing dates, it’s a good sign.
If the code doesn’t scan at all, opens a suspicious link, or sends you to an unrelated website, that’s a red flag. Counterfeiters often replicate packaging convincingly, but they rarely invest in working traceability systems.
