4 Signs You're Wearing the Wrong Bra Size (And How to Fix It)
Think you’re wearing the right bra size? Think again. Many women wear the wrong size for years without realizing it—even if they’ve been measured. Comfort shouldn’t be a luxury when it comes to bras, and a few subtle (or not-so-subtle) signs can reveal a poor fit.
The back band is riding up. If the band hikes upward like it’s trying to escape, it’s too loose. The band should sit level all around your torso—parallel to the floor—and bear most of the support. A too-large band means the straps are doing extra work, which leads to discomfort.
Your cups are either gaping or overflowing. Gaps in the fabric mean the cup is too big, while spillage over the top or sides means it’s too small. Either way, your shape isn’t being properly framed. A well-fitted cup should lie smooth against your skin without wrinkling or squashing.
The underwires aren’t lying flat. If they're poking or floating away from your chest, they’re not doing their job. Underwires should rest flush against your ribcage, following the natural curve of your breastbone. If they don’t, the bra simply doesn’t fit your anatomy.
Straps are constantly slipping or cutting into your shoulders. This usually points to poor band support. If the band fits properly, the straps should stay put and barely dig in—because they’re not carrying the full weight. Adjustable straps help, but they can’t fix an ill-fitting base.
Getting re-measured by a professional or trying on different brands and styles can make all the difference. Breasts change with age, weight, and even hormones—so your size from years ago might not apply today. Listen to your body. The right bra should feel like second nature—supportive, invisible, and completely comfortable.
