Is Cutting Pubic Hair Halal in Islam?

One of the common questions many Muslims ask is whether it's permissible to cut or remove pubic hair. The short answer is yes — it’s not only allowed but encouraged as part of personal hygiene in Islamic tradition.

According to authentic teachings, maintaining cleanliness in specific areas of the body is considered Sunnah, meaning it follows the practices of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This includes removing pubic hair and plucking hair from the armpits. While shaving is a common method, the key point is the removal itself, not necessarily the method used. So whether someone chooses to shave, trim, wax, or use a hair removal product, it’s perfectly acceptable as long as the hair is effectively removed.

The recommended practice, based on Hadith, is to not let more than forty days pass without attending to these areas. This routine is seen as part of fitrah — the natural state of purity and cleanliness encouraged in Islam.

Importantly, the intention behind the act matters. When done as an act of following the Sunnah, it becomes more than just grooming — it’s an act of worship. There is no religious prohibition against using modern tools or methods, as long as they’re safe and modest.

In today’s world, personal grooming habits vary, but the underlying principle remains the same: cleanliness is next to godliness. So whether you prefer a razor, trimmer, or cream, the essential thing is consistency and intention. As long as the purpose is fulfilled respectfully and hygienically, it aligns with Islamic teachings.
