Miasma Theory and Germ Theory

The prevailing Miasma Theory was that cholera was caused by airborne transmission of poisonous vapors from foul smells due to poor sanitation.

At the same time, the competing Germ Theory that inspired Snow was still an unproven minority opinion in medical circles.
