When measuring concentrations in chemistry, water quality, or atmospheric studies, you often encounter two common units: percentage (%) and parts per million (ppm). While percentage measures parts per hundred, ppm looks at a much smaller scale, breaking down a solution into one million parts. Because 1% represents 1 part per 100, converting it to ppm simply requires multiplying by 10,000.
Therefore, 1% is equal to exactly 10,000 ppm. Understanding this ratio makes it easy to visualize and scale down to even smaller concentrations.
