The Sexiest Instruments, According to Science (and Seduction)

Turns out, music really can win hearts — and a few instruments seem to have a serious edge when it comes to attraction. A 2023 survey asked people which instrument they find the most alluring when someone plays it, and the results might just inspire a few new hobbies.

The guitar takes the top spot, claiming 26% of the vote. It’s easy to see why — whether it’s a smoky acoustic riff or a sultry electric solo, guitarists often command attention. There's a certain casual cool that comes with slinging a guitar over your shoulder, and let’s be honest: many of our favorite love songs were born from six strings.

Hot on its heels is the saxophone at 25%. One long, breathy note and suddenly you're in a noir film or a late-night jazz lounge. The sax oozes sensuality — think late-night solos, smooth jazz, and that undeniable physicality of breath and brass. It’s no surprise it ranks so high.

The piano clocks in at 21%, and while it might seem more reserved, there's something undeniably magnetic about watching someone command a keyboard with both hands. From romantic ballads to bold performances, pianists often hold the emotional center of a song — and the room.

Strings also pull their weight: the violin at 14% brings elegance and passion, often associated with classical romance or fiery gypsy tunes. Meanwhile, drums (7%) and the flute (5%) round out the list — powerful in rhythm and airiness, respectively, though they don’t quite spark the same widespread fantasy.

Of course, talent matters — but so does the vibe. Whether it’s the intimacy of a guitar by candlelight or the smolder of a sax after midnight, the right instrument, played with feeling, can be irresistible. In the end, it’s not just the sound — it’s the soul behind it.
