Breaking Into the Big 4: Where to Start?

For many ambitious graduates, landing a job at one of the Big 4 accounting firms—Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG—is a top career goal. While all four are highly competitive, some pathways are a bit more accessible than others, especially at the entry level.

When it comes to breaking in, Deloitte and PwC often stand out as slightly more approachable for new graduates. That doesn’t mean they’re easy to get into—far from it. But thanks to their large-scale recruitment drives and extensive internship programs, they tend to offer more entry points than their peers. These firms invest heavily in campus outreach, early talent development, and rotational programs, which can give motivated students a clearer path forward.

Meanwhile, EY and KPMG maintain similarly rigorous standards, but their hiring volumes and geographic reach may be more limited depending on the region. This can make competition feel even tighter, especially in smaller markets.

Still, the application process across all four firms follows a familiar pattern: online applications, aptitude tests, behavioral interviews, and assessment centers. Success often comes down to preparation, persistence, and the ability to demonstrate both technical aptitude and strong interpersonal skills.

That said, “easier” is relative. Getting into any Big 4 firm is a significant achievement. But if you're just starting out, targeting Deloitte or PwC might give you more opportunities to land that first interview or internship. These roles often serve as gateways to long-term careers in audit, tax, consulting, and advisory.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on your goals, location, and the specific service line you're interested in. But for sheer volume of entry-level openings and structured development paths, Deloitte and PwC remain strong starting points for many new grads.
