Origins of Early Human Settlements

The earliest known proto-cities, such as Jericho and Çatalhöyük in southern Anatolia, mark a pivotal chapter in human history. Existing from approximately 7400 BCE to 5600 BCE, Çatalhöyük offers a fascinating glimpse into early urban life.

Archaeological evidence suggests that its earlier East Mound may have accommodated a population of 600 to 800 residents by 6700 BCE, eventually growing to potentially several thousand people at a later date. These early communities laid the groundwork for modern civilization through cooperative living, agriculture, and shared architecture.
