For new recruits, there is a very narrow window to reconsider. You can choose to leave during the first three months of your service, provided you do not try to exit during the initial six weeks. Missing this specific window means your options change drastically.

Once those initial months have passed, service members generally lose the right to leave voluntarily until they have completed a full four years of service. Furthermore, even after successfully leaving active duty, former soldiers remain subject to being called back up for training or active deployment at any point during the following six years.
