The 4 C's of Success: What’s Holding You Back?

Success isn’t just about talent or timing—it’s often about the internal gears that keep us moving forward. For years, I chased goals only to fall short, wondering why the finish line kept slipping away. Then I realized: it wasn’t a lack of ideas or opportunity. It was missing one of the essential 4 C's: commitment, courage, capability, and confidence.

Commitment is the decision to stay when things get hard. It’s showing up even when motivation fades. But commitment alone isn’t enough if you lack the courage to take the leap—to pitch the idea, start the business, or share your art. Courage pushes you past fear, but it needs fuel.

That’s where capability comes in. It’s not just skill, but the willingness to learn, adapt, and grow. You don’t need to know everything at the start, but you must be capable of finding your way. And yet, what good is capability if you don’t believe in it? That’s the role of confidence—not arrogance, but quiet trust in your ability to figure things out.

The real breakthrough came when I stopped seeing these as a checklist and started seeing them as a loop. Weak confidence? Lean into capability through practice. Struggling to act? Let courage be sparked by small wins. Each C strengthens the others.

Now, whenever I stall, I ask: Which C is missing? Is it commitment wavering? Is fear drowning courage? Or am I doubting my skills? Pinpointing the block helps me refuel the engine. Success isn’t about being perfect in all four—it’s about knowing which one needs attention, right now.
