The Founders Behind Four Pillars Gin
Four Pillars Gin isn’t just a name—it’s a story of friendship, passion, and a bold leap into the world of craft spirits. Founded in 2011 in the Yarra Valley, Australia, the distillery was born from the shared vision of three close friends who brought very different strengths to the table.
Cameron Mackenzie, the head distiller and driving creative force, is the face most often associated with Four Pillars. His relentless curiosity and deep respect for botanicals helped shape the brand’s signature style—bold, aromatic, and unapologetically modern. But he didn’t do it alone.Alongside him stood Stuart (Stu) Gregor, a seasoned industry figure with a sharp eye for detail and brand potential. Stu’s experience in communications proved invaluable in carving out Four Pillars’ distinct voice in a crowded market. Completing the trio was Matt Jones, a charismatic Welshman and rugby enthusiast brought into the fold through Stu’s professional network. Matt brought energy, international flair, and a knack for storytelling that helped elevate the brand beyond the bottle.
What makes Four Pillars stand out isn’t just the quality of the gin—it’s the authenticity behind it. From day one, the founders committed to innovation and transparency, often sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the distillation process, seasonal collaborations, and even their experiments with native Australian ingredients like Tasmanian pepperberry and Davidson plum.
More than a distillery, Four Pillars became a symbol of what happens when friendship meets craftsmanship. Over a decade since its founding, the brand continues to thrive—not because of a corporate strategy, but because of the people who believed in a bold idea and had the courage to distill it into reality.
