The Anatomy of an HTML Document
Every web page starts with a foundational skeleton. Understanding this layout is essential before writing a single line of CSS or JavaScript. A standard HTML5 document relies on four core structural components.
1. The Document Type Declaration (<!DOCTYPE html>)
This declaration sits at the very top of your file. It is not an HTML tag; instead, it is an instruction to the web browser telling it which version of HTML the page uses. For modern web development, <!DOCTYPE html> ensures the browser renders the page in standards mode rather than quirks mode.
2. The Root Element (<html>)
Enclosing everything else on the page, the <html> tag wraps all content. It typically includes the lang attribute (e.g., <html lang="en">), which helps screen readers and search engines identify the primary language of the document.
3. The Head Section (<head>)
The head acts as the invisible control center of your document. It contains metadata that describes the document to browsers and search engines, but does not display directly on the rendered page. Key elements inside the head include:
<meta charset="UTF-8">: Sets the character encoding to support international characters and symbols.
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">: Ensures the layout scales correctly on mobile devices.
<title>: Defines the text that appears in the browser tab.
Links to external stylesheets (<link>) and scripts (<script>).
4. The Body Section (<body>)
Everything visible to the user lives inside the body tags. This includes headings, paragraphs, images, buttons, and interactive widgets.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">

<meta charset="UTF-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<title>Document Title</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Welcome to My Website</h1>
<p>This text is visible inside the browser viewport.</p>

Would you like to move on to Part 2 to cover semantic HTML tags and layout partitioning elements like <header>, <main>, and <footer>?
